“Your gift was never random,

it was planted; Divine and deliberate”

Dralandra testifies to the complexity of Black womanhood, trauma, healing, and resistance

—refusing to be buried by the weight of expectation.

Our first official Skull Dogs Media client, Dralandra Larkins, originally approached us for an author headshot session. Due to a scheduling shift, the project organically evolved into something more expansive: filming and photographing the audiobook recording of her debut book, Before I Lie.

I met Dralandra through the inaugural cohort of More Than A Single Story’s Go Back and Fetch It! mentorship program. When Skull Dogs Media came up in conversation, a creative collaboration took root.

Before I Lie is a fusion of Afrofuturistic poetry and confessional prose that defies silence. In her own voice, Dralandra testifies to the complexity of Black womanhood, trauma, healing, and resistance—refusing to be buried by the weight of expectation.

The session took place at Wild Horse Recording in Stillwater, Minnesota—where Dralandra brought her voice to life. We were honored to document this offering—not just as media producers, but as witnesses.

Testimonial

“I booked Skull Dogs Media for a studio photoshoot and multi-poem audio recording session, and they did not disappoint. They brought my vision to life in the most cinematic, soul-stirring way possible. From crisp studio sound to spontaneous shots and behind-the-scenes blurbs, they captured the essence of my audiobook with precision, artistry, and vibe! They hit every angle and their team is professional, wildly creative, and truly understands how to amplify a storyteller’s voice. They know how to bottle the spirit of your soul and frame truth with every shutter click. On top of that, they were incredibly flexible throughout the process and made me feel at ease especially since it was my first shoot. If you want visuals and audio that hit, book them yesterday.”
