Christian Avey is a writer, artist, and graphic designer—and the co-founder of Skull Dogs Media. Born and raised in Minnesota, he’s a multi-disciplinary creative with a passion for storytelling that celebrates inclusion, resilience, and breaking down stereotypes. Christian holds a degree in Interactive Game Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and his creative work spans across mediums—blending words, visuals, and design into powerful stories that connect and inspire.

A longtime advocate for diverse voices, Christian serves as the online moderator for The Loft Literary Center’s Open Voices Multicultural Writing Group and has been part of multiple writing fellowships, including the 2024 cohort of the Mirror’s and Windows Fellowship and More Than a Single Story’s Go Back and Fetch It! program. He’s also the creator and lead director of Happy Panda Productions, an indie storytelling project born out of a high school film club and revived years later as part of his ongoing creative journey.

At Skull Dogs Media, Christian brings his narrative vision, artistic sensibilities, and design expertise to the table. He’s the story shaper, the visual crafter, and the one who ensures that every project not only tells a story—but looks as bold and captivating as it feels.

Jose Cartagena-Vega is the heart and eye of Skull Dogs Media—a lifelong film enthusiast with a natural talent for visual storytelling. His passion for the craft ignited young, sparked by a love for movies, music, and the energy of creative expression. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Minnesota, Jose’s journey has been one of resilience, growth, and quiet mastery—sharpening his creative eye in the shadows, always learning, always observing.

Jose doesn’t just point a camera; he captures moments. Whether it’s framing a perfect shot, catching the right light, or drawing out the raw emotion of a scene, he has an intuitive sense of timing and perspective that elevates every project we touch. His work is infused with heart, and when he’s behind the lens, it’s not just about visuals—it’s about feeling. Jose’s vision is what transforms ideas into stories that resonate.

🐶Our Backstory

The seed for Skull Dogs Media was planted long ago in a high school film club, where Christian and Jose first bonded over their shared love of storytelling and film. They co-hosted Happy Panda News, a quirky YouTube series blending skits, news, and laughter—setting the stage for a dynamic creative partnership.

Jose became the spark that reignited Christian’s creative fire, while Christian’s vision helped fuel Jose’s passion. They jumped right back into the flow—Christian began writing scripts for a new season of Happy Panda News, and together they started filming Beyblade tournaments across Minnesota. What began as a simple way to reconnect and hone their craft quickly became the foundation for a growing creative venture. With every tournament, they sharpened their skills, upgraded their gear, and built a library of stories and footage that reflected their shared love of community, resilience, and storytelling.

They founded Skull Dogs Media not just as a company, but as a mission: to capture stories that matter, to uplift the voices that deserve to be heard, and to create with the spirit of community, resilience, and joy.
